Nearing the Halfway Point for The Hills Are Alive! Campaign
Thanks to the generosity of numerous churches and individuals, more than $160,000 has been raised in gifts and pledges for The Hills Are Alive! Campaign. This campaign was launched in June 2019 with the goal of raising $350,000 by the end of 2020. We are nearly halfway to the campaign goal!
We all owe special appreciation to the United Church of Christ in Oakley, a church in Cincinnati that made a gift of $35,000 to the campaign! This congregation is in the process of dissolution and is making careful decisions on how the assets of the church can be used for ongoing ministry. We’re delighted that they chose to reinvest some of their funds into Outdoor Ministries. Christ United Church in Olmsted Falls donated $10,000 to the campaign. This is church that federated four years ago, bringing together the former First Congregational of Berea and St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Olmsted Falls.
The Hills Are Alive! will fund key improvements at Templed Hills and will strengthen our Campership Fund so that more children and youth can come to camp even if their families don’t have the means to pay the full fee. Thanks to the gifts received so far, ten new mini-split heat pumps have been installed throughout Memorial Hall, the building that hosts the majority of guests to camp. These will reduce electricity consumption during the heating seasons and will also provide air conditioning in the summer. We are now assessing the next improvements to be tackled. A proposal is being provided to the Conference Board for action at its meeting on February 21.
In addition to the work at Templed Hills, the Conference has forwarded $10,000 to the national setting of the United Church of Christ for the Shaping Our Future campaign. Shaping Our Future will be invested in technology, communications, and leadership development. Another $10,000 will be sent once the campaign surpasses $200,000. Ultimately, there is a tithe of $35,000 from The Hills Are Alive! that will support this national campaign.
A number of churches are in the process of raising money to support The Hills Are Alive!, some in combination with a “Camp Sunday” or a “Mission Month.” Is your church one of them? If not, please encourage them to get involved, too. While we’re pleased at how far we’ve come in seven months, we have a ways to go to reach the campaign goal.
Details about the campaign are available HERE. If you’d like someone to come visit with your church, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call the Conference office at (614) 885-0722 or (800) 282-0740.
