Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!
In the faith and hope of Easter I would like to share some thoughts and reflections as we continue to work together to be the United Church of Christ in Ohio, West Virginia, and northern Kentucky. In this season of Easter, there is much hope for the resurrection to be in covenant with one another as the church.
I see hope in the work our board-appointed teams are doing with moving operations and programming to Templed Hills Camp in 2018 and in selling Pilgrim Hills by fall of 2017. As we are working together to have a great last summer at Pilgrim Hills, and working to get Templed Hills up and running with upgrades, there is the hope for the future. There have been a great group of people helping to get this to happen, from operations to business plan teams. We are grateful they are using their gifts for the wider church. That gives me hope in this season of Easter. Christ is risen!
I also see hope in how God is leading our visioning team which continues to meet and discern to become the an even more faithful wider church in Ohio, West Virginia and northern Kentucky. Small groups from that team have generated new ideas and has energy around many of them. This diverse team has engaged in wonderful brainstorming and discernment with this diverse group of people from every. This group is working together to be the wider church in covenant. Christ is risen!
Finally, I see hope in our board of directors who takes being fiscally responsible very seriously; a priority that is shared our board treasurer, Rev. Sam Buehrer, who works really hard to be transparent and up to date. [Read his most recent report here.] However, the wider church struggles to maintain the programs to which churches have grown accustomed when giving is not as generous as it once was. Although we know that local churches are also struggling, we invite you and your church to give as generously as possible to Our Churches Wider Mission as well as several other special fundraising including our Synod Partner Program, so that all parts of our covenanted ministries have finances with which to do meaningful ministry. Christ is risen!
Our elected board of directors works hard to do the business of the wider church. I pray for them daily. I hope that you will join me. They take seriously their job to make the best decisions possible for the church in Ohio, West Virginia, and northern Kentucky.
Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! May we live together in covenental ministry.
